Anne Heilman started painting mid-life, in the 1950s. She studied art at the American University in Washington DC. She continued taking workshops and classes with local Washington artists. For a number of years she shared a studio with other women artists. They had a group show in Potomac Md. and were interviewed for a program for the Voice of America. She later painted in the studio of George Hamilton who taught color theory. Her peace painting is on display at the Office of the American Jewish Committee in Jerusalem.
In addition to painting she volunteered as an art teacher in an inner city school during the 1970s. She also helped train teacher's aides about art as part of a Title 1 program. She helped set-up and raise funds for a scholarship program for children to attend the Corcoran School of Art.
Art was her passion. She loved talking about and helping her friends and family appreciate art. She continued to paint until she was one hundred years old.
